About the series
"Abjad" is a series of mixed media abstract paintings that intertwines the essence of Arabic letterforms with the elements of earth, light, and sky. Each artwork boasts a central symbol as its focal point, drawing the viewer into a state of serene focus. The interplay of light throughout the day casts enchanting shadows, infusing the pieces with depth and inviting you to explore them from fresh perspectives.
About the process
I started every piece with laying down foundational textures, created with a combination of plaster and acrylic medium. I then explored the different influences I wanted to fuse into each work, including the sky at different times of the day and the layers of sandstone found at Sunset Cliffs and Torrey Pines in San Diego.
This allowed me to derive diverse color palettes that harmoniously coexist with the colors found in Islamic illumination paintings and architecture. The textured and atmospheric juxtaposition in "Abjad" signifies the harmonious coexistence and interconnectedness of every aspect of our experiences.

My intent
As a long standing admirer of the deep-rooted tradition of Arabic calligraphy, my interpretation in "Abjad" extends beyond depicting the form of each letter. Instead, I've shifted focus to the mystical meaning behind each symbol, aiming to evoke its essence through artistic interpretation. It brings me so much pleasure to be able to release this body into the world and for each collector to enjoy their piece for years to come.
